the ECLIPSE
of the century

Beneath the path of totality in Egypt, the Luxor Eclipse Residency brings together artists and researchers for a rare gathering centered around the longest total solar eclipse visible from land in the 21st century.

On August 2, 2027, more than six minutes of totality will pass over Luxor and the Valley of the Kings, darkening one of the most historically and symbolically significant landscapes on Earth.

Residents are invited to create, document, and explore at the very peak of totality beneath one of the rarest celestial events of our lifetime.

The residency takes place from July 30 through August 9, allowing participants time to settle into the landscape before the eclipse and space afterward for creation, reflection, research, and integration.

Participants will stay in a private home with a walled garden less than two miles from the Valley of the Kings, where generations of rulers were entombed within a landscape designed around ideas of death, rebirth, resurrection, and the eternal journey of the soul.

The residency is organized around the concept of Akhet—the ancient Egyptian horizon where heaven and earth meet, where the visible and invisible touch, and where transformation becomes possible.

Rather than prescribing a single interpretation, the residency welcomes diverse perspectives on what an eclipse over the Valley of the Kings might symbolize for our present moment.

Participants are encouraged to develop between one and six works initiated during or inspired by the residency experience. Selected works will be included in a virtual exhibition and archival collection documenting artistic responses to this extraordinary convergence of place, history, and celestial timing.
