the ECLIPSE
of the century

Beneath the path of totality in Egypt, the Luxor Eclipse Residency brings together artists, filmmakers, writers, and researchers for a rare interdisciplinary gathering.

Timed to coincide with the longest total solar eclipse visible from land in the 21st century, the Luxor Eclipse Residency invites residents to create at the very peak of totality, directly beneath one of the rarest celestial events of our lifetime.

The Luxor Eclipse Residency will take place from July 30, 2027 to August 9, 2027, centered around the historic eclipse on August 2.

With time to settle into the landscape before totality and space afterward for creation and integration, the residency is designed for exploration, artistic production, research, and reflection among temples, ruins, desert landscapes, and the shifting atmosphere of the Nile.

Participants will be staying in West Luxor less than two miles from the Valley of the Kings in a Nubian home with a walled garden. All 8 selected participants will be required to contribute a piece of work to our virtual exhibition.

Our exhibition is centered around the ancient Egyptian concept of the Akhet — the luminous threshold between worlds associated with the horizon, eclipses, rebirth, and the meeting point of earth, sky, and the underworld.
